Abstract

The consideration of the cultural landscapes as a legally protected heritage, encourages the design of management strategies and the execution of the appropriate actions. This consideration is reached on a previous work of comprehensive typological characterization and of systematization of legislation, and a subsequent joint interpretation of typology and law. This method has been applied to Aranjuez Cultural Landscape, World Heritage, under a management plan. The outcome of this work has been the harmonization between concept and law, which has finally resulted in the development of specific local regulations and the review of the Catalogue of Immovable Properties of the Historic City Centre. As a conclusion, both the positive impact of the legal definition of cultural landscapes in their management, particularly related to protection and conservation guarantees; as well as the possibility of applying this procedure to other cultural landscapes can be observed.
